# Google Analytics

> Connect a GA4 property so Weelkit shows how many people read your site and each published article, where they come from and what they do.

Google Analytics tells Weelkit who reads your site. Once it's connected, **Performance** and **Analytics** show views, users, engagement, traffic sources, countries and devices for your whole site and for each published article, and the AI can answer questions about your traffic. Weelkit only reads from Google Analytics. It never changes your account or property.

## Before you start

* **Who can connect it:** an Admin or a Managing Editor. A custom role can connect it when it includes the permission to create, configure and remove organization integration connections. See [Roles and permissions](https://docs.weelkit.com/get-started/roles.md).
* **Who sees the data:** every role that can see Metrics: Editors, Managing Editors and Admins.
* **What you need:** a GA4 property, and a Google account that can open it. An organization has one Google Analytics connection.

## Connect

**1. Start the connection**

Open [Organization settings → Integrations](https://docs.weelkit.com/settings/organization.md#integrations) (Managing Editors open **Integration**). In the **Analytics** section, find **Google Analytics** and choose **Connect**.

**2. Approve access in Google**

Weelkit sends you to Google. Sign in with the Google account that can open your GA4 property, and approve the read-only access Google lists. Approve everything it asks for. Start again from Weelkit if you wait more than 10 minutes.

**3. Choose the property**

Back in Weelkit, a message says **Integration connected successfully**. On the **Google Analytics** card, choose **Configure Analytics** (or open the card's **⋯** menu and choose **Configure**). Under **GA4 property**, choose your property.

**4. Import your first data**

In the same window, choose **Sync** to save the property and import the last 30 days now, or **Save Configuration** to save it and wait for the next import. The card then shows **Source** with your property, and **Latest sync** with the rows it imported.

Until you choose a property, nothing is imported, and the metrics pages ask you to select one in **Settings → Integrations**.

## What Weelkit reads

* The Google Analytics accounts and properties you can open, by name, so you can choose one.
* For the property you choose, daily totals, never individual visitors: sessions, users, page views, engagement and key events, broken down by channel, source and medium, campaign, page and landing page, country, region and city, and device.

**Sync** imports the last 30 days. After that Weelkit keeps importing in the background, reading the most recent days again each time so figures Google revises are updated, and fills in older history, newest first, back to 25 months or as far as the property goes. **Last synced** on each metrics page shows the latest import.

## Where you see it

| Where | What it shows |
| - | - |
| [Performance → Overview](https://docs.weelkit.com/metrics/performance.md#overview) | **Views** and **Eng. time** for each published article. |
| [Performance → Traffic](https://docs.weelkit.com/metrics/performance.md#traffic) | Views, users, engagement, key events, channels, sources, referrers, countries, devices and what readers did. |
| [Performance, an article's page](https://docs.weelkit.com/metrics/performance.md#the-article-page) | That article's views, engagement, users and where its readers come from. |
| [Analytics → Overview](https://docs.weelkit.com/metrics/analytics.md#overview) | Visitors to your whole site: pages, landing pages, channels, sources, countries, devices and more. |
| [Analytics → AI](https://docs.weelkit.com/metrics/analytics.md#ai) | Visits that AI assistants send you. |
| [Chat](https://docs.weelkit.com/chat/what-the-ai-can-do.md#images-data-and-metrics) | Ask the AI about your traffic. It needs a role that can see Metrics. |

## Limits and what you control

* **One property at a time.** The metrics pages use the property you selected last. To change it, open **Configure** on the card and choose another.
* **Google's own limits apply.** Google can sample large reports, group small rows as **(other)**, and hide user counts it can't establish across days. Weelkit shows **—** instead of guessing. See [How metrics work](https://docs.weelkit.com/metrics/how-metrics-work.md#unmeasured-values).
* **Access is read-only.** Weelkit asks Google only to read your Analytics data.

## Disconnect

On the card, open the **⋯** menu, choose **Disconnect**, then choose **Disconnect** to confirm. **Keep connection** cancels.

* Weelkit stops importing and deletes the access tokens it stored.
* Figures already imported stay in your workspace, so your history isn't lost. The metrics pages keep showing them and say they are no longer updating.
* Connecting the same property again fills in the days you missed.
* To remove the imported figures, delete the organization, or email [privacy@weelkit.com](mailto:privacy@weelkit.com). See the [Privacy policy](https://weelkit.com/privacy).
* Disconnecting doesn't remove Weelkit from your Google account. To do that, open [your Google Account permissions](https://myaccount.google.com/permissions) and remove Weelkit.

## Troubleshooting

| What you see | What it means and what to do |
| - | - |
| **Connection Failed**: "Permission was not granted." | You closed Google's screen or chose not to allow access. Choose **Connect** again. |
| **Connection Failed**: "The required permissions were not granted." | Google let you approve only some of the access. Connect again and approve everything. |
| **Connection Failed**: "This connection attempt expired or has already been used." | A connection attempt lasts 10 minutes and works once. Choose **Connect** again. |
| **Connection Failed**: "Your organization access changed." | Your role changed during the attempt. Ask an Admin to confirm your access, then connect again. |
| **Connection Failed**: "The provider is temporarily unavailable or rate limiting requests." | Wait a few minutes, then connect again. |
| **Connection could not be confirmed** | Weelkit couldn't confirm the result. Open the **Analytics** section and check whether the card is there before you connect again. |
| **Reconnect required** | Google access expired or was removed. Open the card's **⋯** menu and choose **Reconnect Google account**. Imported figures stay, but nothing new arrives until you reconnect. |
| **Configure Analytics** button, or "Select and save an analytics property or site before syncing." | The account is connected but no property is chosen. Choose **Configure Analytics** and pick one. |
| "Unable to load analytics sources. Test the connection and try again." | Weelkit couldn't list your properties. Choose **Test connection** from the **⋯** menu. It says **Connected to Google Analytics.** when it works. If the list is empty, the Google account you used can't open any GA4 property; reconnect with one that can. |
| **Analytics sync failed** or **Analytics is out of date** | The latest imports failed. Choose **Sync data** from the **⋯** menu and read the **Latest sync** line. A failed run says why. |
| "Analytics sync completed… some subreports failed, so the import is partial." | Part of the import succeeded. Days Google didn't report stay unavailable until a later import fills them. |
| "Google Analytics connection is not configured for this environment yet." | Google Analytics can't be connected here. Contact [hello@weelkit.com](mailto:hello@weelkit.com). |
