# Delete an article field

> Deletes one of the organization's custom fields; the default fields can only be turned off. Requires the manage:organization permission. expectedRevision must match the loaded revision or the delete is rejected with 409. A field a CMS mapping still uses is rejected with 409 (code article_field_in_use), naming the mapping; take it out of the mapping first. Articles that hold a value under the field keep it.
